Launched in 2012, Coco Noir is part of Chanel's Coco lineage but takes a darker, more oriental turn than Coco Mademoiselle. It opens with grapefruit, Calabrian bergamot and orange, moves into a rich floral heart of rose, narcissus, rose geranium leaf, jasmine and peach, and settles into a warm, incense-tinged base of tonka bean, sandalwood, vanilla, patchouli, white musk, olibanum (frankincense) and cloves.

It wears deep and sensual, with the citrus opening fading relatively quickly into a warm, resinous floral-woody drydown that has strong projection and long-lasting wear, well suited to cooler weather and evening occasions. Compared to Coco Mademoiselle's brighter, more everyday patchouli-orange character, Coco Noir is heavier and more atmospheric, closer to a true oriental than a chypre, making it the more formal, nighttime-oriented choice within the Coco family.
